Adventures in Emergency Situations

2:17pm on the 8th of May, 2009

My husband was super restless and didn’t sleep all night wednesday night. I knew something was up, thought maybe he was sick. He tells me in the morning yesterday that he thinks he has a piece of metal in his eye and that it’s really bothering him. I say “let’s go to the doctor” he says “no”. A few hours later he tells me he doesn’t think there’s something in there and that it must just be scratched. I still wanted to take him somewhere, if anything he could get some numbing drops or pain drops. Then he emerged from the bathroom with a look of dread on his face and said there was infact a piece of metal in his eye and that he TOUCHED IT. EEEEEEW! So I called the clinic and asked if it was something we could come in for and the nurse said, “go to the emergency room right now and tell him not to blink” RIGHT! Don’t blink dude.
So I drove him in and he actually got it taken care of pretty fast. The kids were totally crazy and restless and of course I didn’t notice the movies I could put in in the kids area until about 2 minutes before Zach came out. He said they put his head in some contraption and numbed his eye and the doctor just pulled it right out. He’s still in pain and having some vision issues, and has to use antibiotic drops, but I think he’ll be alright. So I was exhausted when we got home because he kept me up all night and then ER trips are never easy especially with a 4 year old and 2 year old in tow.
I finally mustered the energy to go work out by about 5pm which I could actually do because Zach didn’t go to work. I can’t believe how much better I felt after that. I stopped to get chinese food for my little patient and I ran into a customer of mine at the restaraunt which was really funny. It was a guy who’s actually come to my house to pick up diaper products before. Small world! I accused him of using MY chinese restaraunt and he said it was HIS. Then we had a fist fight over some lomein. Just kidding.
I went and got some Pabst tall boys for my tall boy too, he needed medicine! And rushed home to feed the masses.
Hoping for a stress-free day today and no more doctor visits for a while. Between the dog, me, the kids, and now Zach too, we’ve had our fair share for a while!

Diapers, etc. to stock

I’m trying to get everything squared away with my listings for friday’s stocking.  There’s only 3 new diapers but a whole bunch of wipes and doublers going up.

I’ve been so preoccupied with my yard and my dog and a couple of custom orders I’ve had lately that I haven’t been making much as far as instock items go. Hopefully I can pick up the pace, I tend to forget how fun it actually is to stock my store :)

So anyway check out the new stuff I’ve got up in the store!

Spring, finally

Earlier this week I worked really hard cleaning up leaves/dead grass/etc. from the yard that then raked the heck out of it so that I could put down new seed and fertalizer.  It was a big job.  And frustrating because last year we tilled (ok, my husband tilled) and totally started fresh with new seed.  It came in really nice at first, then got all limp and weird, you couldn’t even mow it.  Then it got rust (fungus).  Then it all died.  Our yard looks like a hay field.  So I’m trying again, I really want grass!  I swear, our yard has no nutrience in the soil or something.

So today, instead of working out or doing yard work, I’m actually going to do some sewing.  I’ve just been puting sewing on the back burner lately and doing other things.  I miss it.  And I don’t.  Haha.  I have a love/hate relationship with my sewing machines.

WOW, life.

So I had two little kids here with ear infections, and guess who ended up with one too?!

ME.  And I got the worst of it.  My eardrum ended up rupturing, with a spray of blood.  I’m on two antibiotics and steroids and I can’t hear anything in my left ear.

I saw a doctor at the hospital on sunday and he said I have a big hole in my eardrum.  That if I can’t hear in 1-2 weeks (from then or from when it ruptured… I didn’t clarify that part) I need to see an ENT about getting it patched.  Yuck.  So here’s to hoping that my hearing comes back on it’s own.

I’m still having pain too, which is weird, especially at night.  I had to get up at 4am last night and take drugs, it was hurting that bad.  I can’t wait to be done with this!

Other than that, nothing is going on.  The ear has kind of taken over all my waking thoughts and actions.  The weather is FANTASTIC, it’s supposed to be 80 today.  But I still don’t feel like doing anything, curse you ear!

I’m not working saturday night at Ground Zero and it’s the 15th annual Rubberball so I’ll probably go and enjoy the festivities.  Trying to figure out what to wear, I’ve never actually worn rubber to Rubberball, I don’t own any.  I always feel like a faker if I wear vinyl :)

Crazy week!

The past week or two have been absolutely crazy around here!

The dog has been in and out of the vet (we got a new puppy a couple weeks ago). She needed antibiotics for an irritation on her belly by her incision (spay). Turns up she had Giardia (intestinal parasite) and needed meds for that. AND to top it off she has an umbilical hernia! She’s doing fine though, and we haven’t decided whether we will get the hernia repaired or not, for now it’s minor and not causing her any problems.

Then we all come down with some awful virus, and Stella (our toddler) ends up with an ear infection.  A couple days later, Brian (the 4 yr old) has a double ear infection.  And here it’s finally looking like spring, but we all feel too terrible to enjoy it.

My husband has been trying to get out in the garage to work on his hot rod (1950 ford tudor) but he’s feeling under the weather as well.  Minnesota is not a great place for hot rodding, as more than half of the year is too cold to drive or work on the car.  You have to cram all work into the few short weeks before the driving/carshow/summer season which is also very short.  Plus he made a bit of a boo-boo on the car the other day, he got a little ovezealous and now he’s pretty upset.  I’m sure he can fix it, he’s a master metal worker - the man’s overflowing with talent.

Hello world!

8:30pm on the 9th of April, 2009

This is my first post here.

If I wasn’t fighting a cold, dealing with a toddler with an ear infection, chasing a new puppy around, it would be a little more interesting!

I’m stocking some instock one-size diapers tomorrow at my hyena cart and have been trying to work on some custom orders that I have started.  Otherwise just really excited to have a new blog up and running!
